No Fireworks + No Smoke = No Problem [1]

No Fireworks Allowed: Fireworks stands will be popping up soon, and this is just a reminder that no fireworks are allowed on HRS property at any time by anyone. Three years ago, a fire on HRS property started from fireworks. This resulted in three homes burned, residents displaced and belongings lost.

In the past year alone, HRS has had fires in four locations. Of the four fires this past year, two started from cigarettes, one from a lighter and one from food left cooking unattended.

Smoke Out: Your family’s safety is another reason to join our Quit Smoking/Tobacco Cessation Class, which will be held Tuesday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 24, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the HRS main office at 235 W. Jackson St. The class is free and open to the public, and you can participate at any time. Each meeting counts as two hours of community service. Please call Kathy at 931.526.9793 ext. 212 with any questions. This class is sponsored by HRS and the UC Anti-Tobacco Coalition along with Quit 4 Life and Power of Putnam.

Another Quit 4 Life Tobacco Cessation program is held every Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Celina. Call Daphine Roach of Cumberland River Hospital at 931.243.5190 with any questions.

Five Ways to Celebrate Safely: Need a safe way to celebrate the Fourth of July? Here are five suggestions for fireworks-free fun from TLC’s Parentables. [2]

  1. Catch a concert.
  2. Run a race.
  3. Host a family reunion.
  4. Play at the pool.
  5. See a ball game.

Plus, you can check out events hosted in the area at MustSeeCookeville.com [3] and your local chamber Web sites.
