Way to Go, Jennifer!

Resident Spotlight This month we want to recognize HRS resident Jennifer Brown, who has lived with us almost five years. Jennifer grew up in Jackson County, then moved away for several years and started her own family, but about five years ago, she decided to move back to the area. With her children growing up, Jennifer knew she needed not just a better job, but a career. And an education was the way to that. So, for the past four years, with her kids hitting the books (now grades 7, 5 and Pre-K), Jennifer did, too.

Jennifer graduated this year from Nashville State Community College with an associate’s degree in social work. She has started TTU to complete a dual-enrollment BS degree in sociology and criminal justice. Plans are to then pursue a master’s degree in social work. Long-term plans are to work with children. On top of being a mom and student, she recently began volunteer work with CASA. Jennifer says, “People often say, ‘If I can do it, anyone can,’ but I really mean that. I was not always a good student in school, and it’s been tough, but it’s so worth it.” Way to go, Jennifer! An education is a great gift to give yourself and your children!
