Everyone is invited to an open house on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. at 706 Pine Ave. to celebrate the Teens Need Training after-school program room makeover. Funds for the makeover were provided by a national Make a Difference Day grant sponsored by USA Weekend, Gannett, Newman’s Own and Points of Light. Shaquawana Wester’s 2012 Make a Difference Day coat drive project was recognized by these organizations on April 13 in Washington, D.C., and was one of 10 national winners.
By using the funds from a grant won by Shaquawana Wester for her 2013 Make a Difference Day coat drive project, HRS was able to make the TNT meeting site on Pine Avenue a true “teen hangout.” Cummins Filtration, the Cookeville Police Department and the Police Athletic League all worked together to purchase a StarBoard for the teens to use. And the Fraternal Order of Police has purchased two computers for TNT.
