Teens Need Training serves 22 youth in grades 5-12 after school on Mondays and Wednesdays. In addition to homework help, tutoring and computer lab, we’ve added some great, fun things. We now have a game room with popcorn and cotton candy machines and fun learning-type electronics. During fall break, we’ll be taking a trip and doing a community volunteer project!

We are very grateful to the numerous individuals, clubs, businesses, groups, foundations and churches who provide volunteer and financial support for these programs.

Fall FunDay Hey parents and kids! Be watching your October newsletter for dates and times of our annual Fall FunDay event coming to your location. We’ll have games, crafts, art projects, lunch and of course... lots of fun!

KIDS Matter There are still a few slots at our KIDS Matter after-school reading program for HRS youth in grades K-4 who live in Cookeville. They meet on Tuesdays in the TNT Center of the Pine Avenue Police Substation. Kids have a super snack and guest readers from WCTE, the public library and several others. We have over 500 books to choose from to check out and read at home. There are also fun games and crafts along with the popcorn and cotton candy machines! The first day back, the kids enjoyed a reading and video of the classic “Green Eggs and Ham.”

If you would like more information about any of our youth programs, please call Shaquawana at 526-9793, ext. 213, or see our Facebook pages at Teens Need Training and Highlands Residential Services.
